Yesterday, Castleknock Tidy Towns hosted the “Collect & Connect - Leaf Harvesting” event with Horticulture Transition Year students, who were accompanied by their teachers, Miss McNeal and Mr. Gaffney from Castleknock College.
The one-hour session began with a brief introduction to Castleknock Tidy Towns' environmental sustainability initiatives, which include planting over 2,000 trees, creating mini orchards, establishing pollinator beds, and managing 34 compost bays, all while maintaining the beauty of Castleknock. We also discussed composting and how leaves, with the help of worms, fungi, and sunlight, transform into a powerful soil enricher. 🌱🌞.
The students did an amazing job, filling 9 one-tonne bags of fallen leaves and helping us prepare the 2025 batch of nutrient-rich leaf mould— Nature’s Gold ✨
