Castleknock Village Festival 2024

Firstly, the 10th Annual Castleknock 5k race kicked off at 11am. Hugh Armstrong was first to cross the finish line in Castleknock in a time of 0:14:29! Nichola Sheridan was the first female home in a time of 0:17:20. Congrats to everyone who ran the race and raised money for the chosen charity, St Francis Hospice. Well done to our own CTT volunteer Ruth who completed in a respectable time of 0:24:29.

The festival really got underway from 12 noon. The sun shone and the music played so there was a lively atmosphere for the day. CTT had its usual stand manned for the day by volunteers. The e-cargo bike was a real talking point. We had lots of people popping by to say hello so we were kept busy. We had visits from local councillors, T.D.s., one senator and two Ministers.

The sensory boxes were a huge hit and not just for the children. They generated great engagement and fun. We had donated plants to give away. We had masks for children to colour. The soil quiz and the sprouting seed jars both provided opportunities for us to discuss the importance of soil health for food production and 'growing your own'.

Brenna Crushell, Castleknock artist and ceramicist, had donated a number of beautiful vases, dishes and plates for us to sell on our stall. All of these hand-made items were inspired by the leaves and plants around the greens and gardens of Castleknock. Brenna's work helped us to raise €470 in sales and donations on the day. Many thanks for this generous gesture and to all who purchased and donated!

Well done to everyone involved in the organisation and execution of all the various events and stalls. Thanks to the CTT volunteers who got involved. It was great to mix, meet others at the various stands and to be part of this annual Castleknock village community event. Next year hopefully there will be even more village businesses taking part and using this terrific opportunity as a showcase for what they have on offer locally.
